Have you ever read Mo Willems' Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus? It's a great one. It's kind of written like a comic book about a ridiculous pigeon. This week we got a chance to write our own Pigeon books. Now, we didn't copy Mo's book, but we each wrote our own take on it. Some topics included...Don't Let the Pigeon: "Go to Camp," "Go to a Friends House," "Play X-Box," "Have a Girlfriend," "Swim with Sharks," and many more.
We learned a little more about Devon today. She has two dogs, Alice and Lucy. she rescued Alice in California. For her first crazy hair day she had half silver and half blue hair. Devon's first double black was KT Gully in Snowmass Village and last year she even hiked THE WALL! We also found out some more details in the life of Jack K. Jack was born on August 14th. He came home from the hospital with a hat on and so did his brother a few years later. Jack knows how to play T-Ball and ride a bike. Jack put skis on for the first time in his living room! This winter Jack took a holiday photo in Hawaii with his family with GIANT poinsettias in the background. Then, a continuation of our subtraction fun from yesterday. Subtractions games and scavenger hunts. Finally, a very warm and sunny afternoon on the cross country ski track. Always the MOST fun. Some things I heard out there..."I think my foot is put on backwards!" "What would happen if I jumped off this cliff?" "You definitely look like a pretzel." "I literally have to poop right now!" "Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! CRASH."
Jack made a timeline according to his age! He's been to the Grand Canyon, Disney World, the beach, and visited with Santa many times! He had to have surgery on both of his thumbs. Ouch! His best buddy is Jackson from Miss Kelly's class next door. Thanks for sharing Jack! Lucien is an outdoors kid. He learned to ski when he was only two and surf when he was four. At four he also caught his first fish. He has spent a lot of time (including his 1st birthday) in Mexico. Last year he had Miss Beth for Kindergarten. This year he visited the Aspen Art Museum. Today we split up into two math groups. The first played subtraction dice games. The second went on a subtraction scavenger hunt around the room. It was a subtraction kind of day. I even heard someone say "this math is so fun!!!"
Charlie had lots of cake on his 2nd birthday! He's a big football fan...ESPECIALLY if it's Nebraska. One time Charlie got to see a Bronco's game in Denver. After the game he had to have some X-Rays taken, but he got to watch a movie while the doctors were taking the pictures! Charlie has seen the perfect heart shaped cloud! Sometimes clouds are our loved ones looking down on us from heaven. Avery got to hold a kangaroo at the rodeo in Houston. It was almost as big as she was! She went to Hawaii in 2012 and got to swing on a warm and sunny hammock overlooking the ocean! For Avery's 5th birthday she got a dog (or maybe even a best friend) named Lola. Lola even came wrapped as a present! Lola is playful, fun, has brown and white patches.
We started off the day with our favorite reading buddies. It was so nice to see them after the break. It seems like everyone got a little taller in our time apart.
Next, we had a surprise. We compared the book and the movie Lost and Found. We were detectives as we listened and watched. We figured out what the author and the directors chose to do the same and chose to different! The book and the movie come highly recommended. Finally...belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHARLIE!
Today we learned a little more about Leila. She was a super cute lion for her first Halloween. She got hugged by a lamb at Avalanche Ranch. She went to Panama, hiked the bowl, and met Gracie Gold! Leila's time line was very specific with arrows and dates! Thanks for sharing Leila. AND...HAPPY BIRTHDAY IKE!
We're working on setting goals for the New Year. It's tricky to reflect on last year and figure out what you want to do differently. Stay tuned for our final products!
Today we were lucky enough to learn a little more about Micah and Maddy. They shared their timelines and the major events that have happened in their lives. Looking forward to seeing everyone else's timelines soon! Here's what we found out. Micah chose to put his timeline on a train because of the many different sections. How cool! We learned that Micah really likes to mushroom hunt. He found mushrooms when he was really little AND this year on our Buttermilk hike. We learned that Micah went to London and had to go on a plane over night. Thanks for sharing the last seven years with us! Maddy shared many life events on her timeline. We learned that Maddy loves to cook, goes bowling, knows how to ski, is a ballerina, and competes in ice skating. Thanks from sharing the last 6 and a half years with us Maddy!
Welcome back! We had a great start to January today. We were productive and remembered how to get back to work! Today we discussed what happens to food that gets left out on the counter or in the refrigerator for too long. We found out it's much worse than we ever imagined. After soaking in vinegar, water, sugar, and lemon solutions, different mold began to grow on the pear slices. If you had to eat one, which would you eat? We decided vinegar had the best preserving properties...kind of like a pickle. We like pickles!
