In case you haven't heard...WE HAVE CHRYSALISES. It's very big news over here. We now have to be extra gentle with our little creatures. They have attached themselves to the tops of our cups and we really don't want to shake them free. We have been able to observe their cycle with own eyes and it's nothing short of amazing. Did you know a caterpillar hangs from the ceiling and forms and "j" shape with it's body? Then it slowly wriggles and writhes until it's spun a protective chrysalis around itself. Then it hangs very still and waits for the magic to happen! We're thinking we may see some butterflies next week. So, we took some time to look at the whole butterfly life cycle. Today we drew the habitat for each stage of life. Tomorrow Miss Kylie has a surprise for how we are going to create eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises, and butterflies.
Today we had a visit from a very special author, Jeffery Bennet, the author of Max Goes to the Moon. This is a book all about a dog that goes to space. Even though the story is fiction, the dog in the book is real! Also, the margins of the book are filled with facts about space. The author is an astrophysicist and wanted to give children the opportunity to learn all about space too!
Did you know that astronauts have story time in space? You can hear Max Goes to the Moon read by a real live astronaut right here. Check it out! For more Story Time From Space, click here!
