On Friday afternoons we have choice time. We're now open for business, creating high-quality local skis. There is a bank that lends money. We have a fabrication department, a customization team, binding specialists, and a waxing station. It's pretty awesome!
Today, math was directly related to real-life skills. We learned to measure to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. It was tricky at first, but luckily we are already fraction experts.
Today we explored particle collision. We used counters to look at how energy is transferred between molecules. This helps us visualize sound waves.
We've used tsunamis, springs, and ropes to visualize sound waves. Now we're using a really cool sound wave simulator to see what's happening with the air molecules all around us as we speak, play instruments, and make noise.
We're so excited to write and publish a book together. Our teamwork has improved immensely! Now that we have our plot, we're each working on a back to write and illustrate the story.
Sound waves involve energy transfer between molecules that are too small to see with the human eye. So, it's hard to learn about them. We're using tsunamis and the same principles of energy transfer to help us visualize what's happening.
We're writing a class book! We have a theme and an idea. We're hashing out the characters, setting, plot, problem, and resolution. It's so much fun and so much collaboration!
We also learned this cool grounding technique called 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. Try is at home! |
