We're going deeper with grammar within the context of writing. Up first, we're examining ways to make complete sentences. Can you identify the subject and predicate? Can you use a coordinating or subordinating conjunction? Can you fix a fragment or a run-on?
We've been practicing making inferences in group reading. Now we're practicing in independent reading. We're keeping double-entry journals. We write what we read on one side and what we inference on the other side. It's interesting to see other people's perspectives.
Today we used number lines to practice rounding big numbers. We started with rounding to the nearest multiple of 10,000 and 100,000. We'll practice with more multiples next week!
During IDR, we looked for sensory images in our books. We took note of them in double-entry journals for reference in our own narrative writing. We love learning from our favorite authors.
Ms. Block, our math specialist, reintroduced us to Number of the Week. Each week, we get a new number as a class. Our job is to come up with creative ways to make the number using combinations of math operations and concepts that we know.
Today we practiced writing sensory images from pictures. Imagine standing in one of the images below. What do you see, smell, hear, taste, and feel? Tomorrow, we'll practice adding these kinds of images to our own narrative writing.
We are enjoying learning the ukulele in music with Ms. Amanda. It's very different than the recorder. We're learning chords, strumming patterns, and our fingers are sore! |
