Sometimes the internet goes out and all your work is in Google and you just
need to do an art project. Check out our awesome winter trees of symmetry!

HOW BIG IS COLORADO?

11/12/2020

This week we used our area and perimeter skills to find out just how big the state of Colorado is.  We used a map and scale to measure the perimeter. Then we used the length and width to find the area. We haven't learned all in the ins and outs of large multiplication yet, so this was a challenge, but we used a bunch of strategies to tackle it and showed great perserverance!

THE COLORADO BIG MAP

Today we walked all over Colorado! We took off our shoes and walked around the state!
We learned about maps features and scale. Then we used string to measure different distances. We measured border length, distances between towns, and lengths of rivers.

THE COLORADO STORY

We're starting a unit on all things Colorado. and we're starting with some important geography. We're learning to read maps and take notes. We already have lots of great questions to explore as we dive into our text book. For example, what is the population of Colorado? How many towns are in Colorado? How many working and how many abandoned mines are in Colorado? How many ghost towns are in Colorado? What is the highest elevation in Colorado and what is the average elevation? How big is Colorado...perimeter and area?

COMMUNICATION

11/2/2020

Today in guidance we talked about the power of communication. We practiced giving drawing directions to a blindfolded partner. We couldn't move their pencil for them and they couldn't ask for clarification, so it was very important that our directions were simple, straightforward, and explicit. This is a fun activity to try at home with any picture. It's harder than you might think!
