Today we practiced writing book reviews. But not just any book reviews...we Tweeted them (old school bulletin board style)! The cool thing about a Twitter post is it's limited to 280 characters. Sometimes less is more. What would you say about you about the book you're reading?
We're developing our fourth grade routines. One of our favorites is Independent Daily Reading or I.D.R. for short. We keep track of our reading on a reading log, try out new genres, read old favorites, test out new vocabulary, and practice everyday!
Today we completed our first Three Act Task. This is a fun math task you will hear lots more about through the year. We worked with partners or individually, tried lots of strategies, failed, persevered, and learned from those failures! It was awesome.
Today we got to build a pyramid out of cups. Sounds simple, right? Here's the catch...you can't touch the cups. Teams got one meter of ribbon, one rubber band, and one pair of scissors. How would you work together to stack the cups? After we built, we reflected on what worked well when working in a team. We found that listening to everyone's ideas, being flexible in your thinking, allowing for quiet, and trusting your teammates worked really well. We'll practice these skills lots more throughout the year. Can you make the numbers zero through twenty using only the digit four? It took a little thinking, but with division and fractions, turns out we can make any number!
Welcome! My name is Kylie Collins. I will be your child's fourth grade teacher this year. I'm thrilled to be embarking on my fourth year teaching fourth grade. In the past, I've worked in reading intervention and taught first grade. I live in Almont with my husband Matt and two dogs. I love trail running, skinning and nordic skiing, camping at alpine lakes, wildflowers, black coffee, donuts, and playgrounds. I look forward to getting to know your child and your family!
