WILL A MOUNTAIN LAST FOREVER?

12/15/2021

Picture
Today we explored how mountains erode over time. We used sugar cubes to represent the rocks and examined how they deteriorated after continuous shaking in a jar...similar to a rock tumbling down a mountain. We're getting closer to solving the mystery of the baby rhinoceros fossils found in Nebraska!

MATH REVIEW

12/14/2021

Picture
Ms. Katie Jo helped us review for our Unit 4 math test with a fun round of trivia. We worked with our teams to come up with answers and learned from mistakes. We were good sports and can't wait to try more. Check out the slideshow below if you want to review some of our math concepts at home. Ask us the difference between partitioned rectangle and partial products multiplication.

THE ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE

12/13/2021

Ms. Stacey helped us show our gratitude. We wrote notes and drew pictures
as reminders for all of the things we have gratitude for in our lives.

IT'S GOING TO BE A GOOD WEEKEND

12/10/2021

This happened today. We're taking it as a very good omen!

Winter is back and we couldn't be more excited!

SPELLING

12/9/2021

Picture
We've been diligently doing our spelling in book club each day. This week we're learning about three different spellings for the long u sound. By learning these patterns, we can predict the most common spellings for the words we write. Long u is spelled u-consonant-e when u is in the initial or medial position of a one syllable base word or in the final syllable of a longer word, as in mute and reuse. Long u is spelled u at the end of a syllable in a multisyllabic word, as in music. Long u is spelled ue in the final position, as in true and rescue. It's a lot of work, but our spelling is improving!

This week we used pictures to make it more fun!

LAVA

12/8/2021

We've learned that there are two types of volcanoes...those that explode and those that do not. These volcanoes are different shapes, produce different rocks, and have different lava. We did an experiment with "thick" and "thin" lava and predicted which comes from each volcano.

25 REASONS TO BE THANKFUL

12/7/2021

This week we continued our discussion of gratitude as a daily practice.
Did you know actively practicing gratitude can make you a happier and healthier person?
Also, are you familiar with Kid President? If not, you're welcome.

GLOBAL PROBLEM SOLVERS

12/6/2021

Picture
We're collaborating with Ms. Moran in STEM to compete in a contest called ExploraVision. We'll identify a global problem, look at existing solutions, do some research, create our own invention to solve the problem in an even better way, and document our work on a website. On Friday, we kicked it off with the whole fourth grade in the library. Now we can't wait to get started!

If you want to know more, check out the  ExploraVision  website.
Here's a past winners website: The Toothbrush of the Future.
Also, check out the Global Problem Solvers for information on the problem solving process.
