We love creating art in the classroom. This week we're creating collages of
symbols of our growth over the last year in fourth grade. We explored how energy is transferred among particles in air (or any other material) with the help of some pennies. How can you make three pennies move by only touching one?
One particle collides with another, which creates a chain reaction. In a sound wave, for example, particles do not travel across an entire wave, but rather transfer their energy from one to the next and in doing so transfer the sound. Ages ago, we explored our growth over the year in blackout poetry. Here are the final products! When a snowy thunderstorm ruins your afternoon recess,
playground lighting watch was the activity of choice!
In science we're using tsunamis to learn more about sound waves.
They have a lot in common. Fun fact: did you know a tsunami can travel from it's origin in Alaska down to the tip of South America in just 20 hours! Yikes! |
