GARDEN TOUR

5/26/2022

Today we took a tour of the Mountain Roots school garden. We learned about seeds and planted onions that we get to harvest next fall as fifth graders!

BINARY CODE

5/25/2022

We've learned so much about how information is transferred as energy in the form of sound waves. Now, we're learning how information is transferred digitally in binary code. Did you know that computers speak in the numbers 0 and 1? We're practicing decoding and encoding simple pictures for our friends. It's so cool! Do you know your name in binary code?

BOOK CLUB WRAP UP

5/24/2022

We just finished our last book club read, The Witches by Roald Dahl. We're taking some time to write creative answers to questions still unanswered. It's interesting to think about why the author made certain choices. It's also fun to come up with backstories for the characters.

PERSONAL FINANCIAL LITERACY

5/23/2022

We're ending the year with a study of personal financial literacy. This includes learning about income, savings, spending (needs/wants), investing, stocks, and risk. Today we learned a new game that is coming home for homework. All you need is a deck of cards and a coin. We can't wait to share it and show your our addition and subtraction with decimal skills!

UTE NATIVE AMERICANS

5/20/2022

Today we had the pleasure of working with RMBL to learn more about the Ute Native Americans who inhabited our lands before us. We learned how they used STEAM principles (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) before it had the fancy label.

We wrote a book! And the coolest part is, that we're now real live published authors!
The process was a testament to how much we've grown this year. We worked as a team to determine the theme, come up with an idea, break it down into a beginning, middle, and end, and then finally into individual pages. We listened to our friends' ideas and shared our own. It's a book about friendship and freedom. It's a book about creativity and bravery and adventure. We'll each receive a copy of the book next week, but you can share our work with grandparents and family members and even order a second copy of your own on Amazon.

MUSIC CONCERT PREVIEW

5/17/2022
