We're writing letters to show our gratitude to the ones we love.
We can't wait to get these beauties in the mail! Today in guidance, Ms. Stacey taught us about the Zones of Regulation. This is a tool we can use to identify our feelings. After we're able to give our feelings a name, we are better able to regulate our feelings and our reactions. The green zone is the best zone for learning!
We completed our classroom Zentangle art project.
All these tiny works of art put together make a masterpieces. It's kind of like our class! We started the year with a study factors and multiples. We wrapped up this first unit with a look at the artwork of Piet Mondrian. His geometric designs of rectangles and squares are carefully constructed areas. We created out own using specific mathematical parameters.
Today we began to learn our dance with Ms. Colleen. We're focusing on renewable energy! Have you heard of the locker problem? Check it out and ask us what we learned!
Imagine there are 20 lockers in the hallway and 20 students in your class. The first student walks down the hall and opens every locker. The second student closes every second locker. The third student changes every third locker. If it's closed, she opens it. If it's open she closes it. The pattern continues for all 20 students, so the 20th student changes the 20th locker. How many lockers are touched by only two students? Why? Which lockers are touched by the most students? Why? Which lockers are left open at the end? Why? As we study nonfiction in reading writing, we're beginning to draft our own pieces of factual writing. It's fun to research different topics and learn what our friends find interesting.
Turns out our brains are amazing. Our senses send information to the brain through sensory nerves. Our brains decide what to do with that information. And finally our brains send signals to the body through movement nerves. All of these thing happen in a split second. We tested it out today with a simple reaction time experiment. Ask us about it and try this at home!
As nonfiction writers, it's important to explore works of nonfiction. This week we learned about other countries and explored different nonficiton books. We've looked a maps and atlases, informational books, question and answer books, and resources online to gather ideas.
