HAPPY BREAK!

Ms. Katie Jo made this awesome video highlighting the ways we learn in fourth grade!

VOCABULARY

10/7/2021

We've been writing our reading vocabulary on a whiteboard as we come to words we don't know. Today we learned to use dictionary.com to define those words. We worked with partners, sifted through the tricky definitions, and came up with fourth grade friendly definitions.

MULTIPLICATION VERSATILES

10/6/2021

Today we started to review basic multiplication to get ready for our next math unit.
We worked in partners to complete Versatiles! They're super fun and engaging.

"Everybody is a genius, but if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole live believing that it is stupid." -Albert Einstein
-
Our read aloud, Fish in a Tree, just keeps getting better and better! Today we learned more about dyslexia and how everyone's brain is wired just a little bit differently; this is called neurodiverisity.  If everyone were the same, the world would be a very dull place.  Everyone deserves to be treated with kindness because kindness is always a choice.  Did you know some really creative geniuses are believed to have had dyslexia? (Albert Einstein, Walt Disney, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and the list goes on and on.)

This isn't quite like reading with dyslexia, but it makes reading challenging. Can you crack the code? Give it a try at home tonight!

MATH FUN

10/1/2021

We use our math board each week to practice math skills and writing about math.
Picture
Each morning we get a new clue for our estimation station. We use the clues to eliminate choices and get closer to the answer reveal on Friday. There always seem to be more dominoes or marbles or cars than we think. And we're learning about multiples, prime numbers, square numbers, and number patterns along the way. This is the best way to start the day!
Picture
Each week we get a new picture. It could be numbers, shapes, logos, or anything really! We have to use logic, complete sentence, great grammar, and good reasoning to come up with our answer. There's no right or wrong as long we you can provide a reason and explanation for your thinking. Which one do you think is the odd one out? And can you tell us why?
Picture
Would you rather is similar. Each week we get two new choices. Then we have to decide which we would prefer. As long we we show our math and thinking, there's no right answer. Maybe you want option A because there are more coins? Maybe you want option B because they are worth more money? Maybe you want option B because you like quarters more than pennies?
