We started off with a science experiment. With all this warm weather we've been talking a lot about the states of matter and melting. In order to learn a little more about how states of matter can change we decided to figure out how to melt an ice cube the fastest. Check out our methods:
Holding it in your hands hurts a little bit, but works pretty quickly.
Licking it or eating it took about the same amount of time but we had to give our tongues frequent breaks.
Wrapping it up in layers proved to keep it alive the longest. This was actually pretty cool because we got to learn about insulation and how a thermos works.
The fastest way to melt an ice cube was to put in in hot water or better yet, run it under water.
We also honed our dictionary skills. We've learned how to alphabetize and so we looked up the words evaporation, condensation, precipitation, water, cycle, and science. We took note of the guide words up top that helped us find the right pages. Some words have more than one definition, this is where we had to use our detective skills to see what made sense in context! Ask us about nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs over dinner tonight!
Lessons learned from a dictionary: don't take things out of context!
