FRIDAYS ALWAYS FLY BY...

...and this Friday was no exception.  We saw our fifth grade buddies.  We heard from the reporter and scientist.  We even had a secret reader!  First grade is jam packed with great things!

This morning we read the book The Mitten Tree.  We had a chance to talk about all of the things we are thankful for this holiday season. We came up with quite a few!  We met with our fifth grade buddies and made some thankful mittens of our own to decorate our classroom!

Gavin shared a great experiment today!  He wanted to know what would happen if you mix water and oil. ​

We thought: (a) they would bubble up; (b) they would explode; (c) the water would change color; (d) the top would get all greasy; (e) they would not mix out.  Turns out water and oil do not mix.  The water is heavier and sinks to the bottom.  The oil floats on top.  We talked about how this happens with vinegar in salad dressing.

​Rocco shared an interesting article!  We learned that a burglar in Florida was running from the police when he was eaten by an alligator.  Totally gross!  The moral is burglary is bad news!  And we don't have alligators in Aspen.

​​Last but not least, Charlie's mom, Heather, surprised us as the Secret Reader today. She shared one of Charlie's favorite books: If You Ever Want to Bring an Alligator to School, DON'T.  It was a great read and really funny!  It even had some parts that reminded us of the How To books we are writing right now!
