MAX GOES TO THE MOON

Today we had a visit from a very special author, Jeffery Bennet, the author of Max Goes to the Moon.  This is a book all about a dog that goes to space.  Even though the story is fiction, the dog in the book is real!  Also, the margins of the book are filled with facts about space.  The author is an astrophysicist and wanted to give children the opportunity to learn all about space too!

We compared this book to another one of our favorites, The Magic School Bus Sees Stars.  The students in Ms. Frizzle's class go on a fictional journey to the stars.  The events in this book are not possible, however, the dialogue is filled with real facts about space.  It's fun to learn through reading!  Can you find any books at home that are fiction, but still teach you something as you read?
