THE RETURN OF THE SCIENTIST AND HISTORIAN

4/16/2015

Yesterday, Jack shared a fascinating article that was close to home for many of us.  The article Belt Drive honored Master Gibbons, teacher and sixth-degree black belt in Soo Bahk Doo.  Gibbons was the first woman to test at the master instructor level in Korea in 2002.  She continues to practice and teach as she deeply believes in the five pillars of Soo Bahk Do: history, tradition, philosophy, discipline/respect, and technique.  The sport teaches students to realize and have control over their power while also emphasizing showing respect and kindness to others.  What a great lesson as we continue to work on kindness in the classroom.  Thanks Jack!

Aracely shared a cool experiment with us yesterday as well.  She wondered what would happen if you put white flowers into water with blue and yellow food coloring.  We had a few great hypotheses.  First, we thought the flowers would turn blue and yellow.  Second, we thought the flowers would dry out.  Third, we thought the stems would turn blue and yellow.  Today we found out hypothesis number one was correct.  We had a discussion about why we don't turn blue and yellow when we drink different colored beverages.  We decided our bodies were more complex than a flowers and we are able to collect the nutrients we need and get rid of what we don't.  Thanks Aracely!

Check it out!  We are very proud of what we were able to create by working together.
