First we learned all about coins. How much they are worth and how to add them together. Then we practiced our fact families. More teamwork!
Today we created a map of our school. We worked in teams to create the playground, the downstairs, and the upstairs. It was fun, challenging, and rewarding! First we took a walk around the school and took notes of where everything actually is. Then we used the legends we created Tuesday to complete the actual maps. Then we presented: THE DOWNSTAIRS THE UPSTAIRS THE PLAYGROUND
We're talking about repeating patterns in math. Today we started to talk about repeating patterns that increase over time. If I have two pennies today and I add two more everyday, how many will I have on day ten? This is a fun way to practice counting by different intervals. Then we started making a class map. We're working in teams of six to create different parts of the school: the playground, downstairs, and upstairs. Today we made the legend. We decided what elements would be important and what symbols made sense. This is quite the teamwork exercise! We worked together really well and took turns writing and creating symbols.
It is invention convention week and we are all so excited for Friday. Gavin will not be here Friday so he shared his invention today. Does your little brother wear through his shoes when he rides his Strider bike? Don't you wish Strider made a shoe with a tougher toe? Well look no further. Gavin has invented the tough-toed tennis shoe designed specifically for Strider braking needs.
We are looking forward to sharing all of our ideas with you on Friday from 1pm-2pm! We're wrapping up a class autobiography that you will see in published form in the next few weeks! It's very exciting. Today we worked with a partner to get down some important information, like how tall we are and how many freckles we have! Then we let our beautiful butterflies go. Some flew off quickly and others lingered on our fingers and nearby dandelions. It was definitely a highlight. Then we went over to Miss Kelly's class to check out their invention convention. Don't forget to finish up your invention this weekend for our convention Friday, May 8th. We were inspired by our peer's creativity.
